All Throughout Asia decorates Oak Tree to celebrate the Lunar New Year
The All Throughout Asia club decorated the school this Monday in celebration of Lunar New Year, which occurred on Feb. 14.
Club members decorated the light poles, grates and trees around the quad with colorful signs, paper lanterns, red envelopes, fake fire crackers and traditional banners. The club met the previous weekend to make the red envelope chains as well as other decorations.
“Making decorations was a fun way to be social and hang out with friends but [to] spread [Asian] culture at the same time,” said sophomore club member Cameron Yong.
The club is fulfilling its mission statement of spreading Asian cultural awareness by informing the school of the holiday and its traditions as well as wishing everyone a happy new year.
“I think the decorations are pretty cool. They show how unique Northwood is and how culturally active and diverse [our] school is,” said junior Josh Kim.
Club members met at school at 1:30 p.m. on Monday and worked until 4 p.m. to prepare the quad for the Year of the Tiger. The decorations will stay up until the end of the week.
