Northwood’s Academic Decathlon wins medals at county-wide competition
Over 500 students competed at the Orange County Academic Decathlon competition, which took place over the last two Saturdays, January 31 at Tustin High School and February 6 at Westminster High School. Northwood’s team, led by junior Christina Nguyen, collectively won a total of 30 medals.
· Christina Nguyen – 3 medals, including 1st for speech
· Angela Strong – 1 medal
· Ninad More – 1 medal
· Neil Tennyson – 6 medals, including 1st in essay, speech, and economics PLUS 1st place overall individually in his grade category
· Shalabh Mathur – 4 medals
· Dylan Chen – 3 medals
· Aaron Gumabong – 3 medals
· Sam Choi – 6 medals
· Andrew Hsiao – 3 medals
They also took 5th place in the Super Quiz, a team relay competition, and 3rd overall in their division. Northwood’s team is only in its second year and accomplished these wins without a teacher coach or formal class.
