Boys Tennis Serves up a New Season

Boys Varsity Tennis started out its season strongly with a 14-4 win against Los Alamitos at their first match on Tuesday, March 2. The team also won its first scrimmage against San Clemente 14-6 on Monday, March 3.

The team is quite young this year, although many tennis players graduated last year. Nevertheless, many players were promoted from JV, and there are four freshmen on the team. Some of the new players include freshmen Nick Yoon, Jasper Lee and Jonathan Nguyen.

“They are very talented, but it is going to take a few matches before you see how they handle the pressures of competitive match play,” said Coach Eric Keith.

The team still has experience and leadership in senior Kevin Kim, and sophomores Calvin Ngo and Julian Ruffin.

“They will undoubtedly be our leaders this year,” said Keith.

The team’s biggest matches of the season will be against Woodbridge High School on March 20 and April 20, as they compete for the Sea View League title. The team will also be attending a tournament April 19 and 20.

The team is looking forward to a promising season.

“I think we’ll have a good year,” said Keith. “The combination of experienced players along with the young talent should hopefully put us in a position to fight for our fourth consecutive league title.”
