Girls Soccer loses to Capo Valley in CIF
Northwood Girls Varsity Soccer played a close game against Capistrano Valley during a first-round CIF game on Feb. 19, but lost 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
During regulation play, neither team let in any goals. Northwood’s goalie, junior Sydney Smith, had seven saves in the first half. In the second half, Smith again held off Capistrano Valley and had a total of 16 saves during the game.
Northwood attempted to score during the second half, but was not able to get past Capistrano Valley’s goalie. Regular play ended with both teams scoreless and stayed that way through two overtime periods, leading to a shootout.
Capistrano Valley was leading 3-2 during the penalty kicks, but Northwood senior Carly Singer made a goal and tied the score. Unfortunately, Capo Valley was able to get the ball past Smith and Northwood lost 5-4, eliminating them from the playoffs.
The Northwood Girls Varsity Soccer team finished their season with an overall record of 9-8-4.
