The Beauty Blog: Lipstick and Lip Gloss
With many different makeup collections such as Revlon, Chanel and Rimmel London putting more of a stress on lips and the right color completing an overall look, it’s important for people to know which colors go with what makeup looks and which colors fit which faces. While these tips might not work for everyone, they are good tricks and advice that can be applied or tweaked to fit different people.
1. When wearing the classic Hollywood red lip, it’s important that you keep the eye makeup
simple. The main focus of the face should be the lips, and if the eyes are overdone, it makes the
look more suitable for night-wear than for daily, casual wear. Stick with the basics: liquid eyeliner
on the upper eyelid, a good mascara for your upper and bottom lashes and light eyeliner on the
outer corner of your bottom waterline. For the eyeliner on the bottom waterline, try to use colors
like dark brown or deep purple, and avoid using a straight black, as it tends to wash you out and
make your eyes look smaller.
2. The perfect everyday lip color is usually one that stays within the nude-pink range. Depending
on your skin tone, sometimes a more vibrant pink can work, but in most cases, lipsticks like
Rimmel London’s “Airy Fairy” and “Spotlight Beige” are perfect. The list below shows different drugstore and higher-end nude-pink lipsticks.
3. If you have thin lips and want them to appear fuller, take white eyeliner and trace it over the top
of your lip’s Cupid’s bow. Gently smudge it to make a light, hardly noticeable line. The white
will give the impression of fuller lips and only takes a few seconds to execute. While lip
plumpers are also available, white eyeliner is more affordable and less harmful to your lips.
4. Another trend that can be seen in lipsticks is the light lavender shade, which appears as a mauvey-pink on the lips. Though many tend to shy away from such exotic colors, the purple actually shows up as a gorgeous pink color with almost unnoticeable hints of light purple. Some
good lavender lip products are Revlon’s “Super Lustrous Lip Gloss” in “Lilac Pastelle” and Mac’s
“Lavender Whip.”
